FALCON HILDRED

• Situated at the end of a valley there is no way out, other than a very steep climb out of the valley by narrow mountain road over to Blaenau Ffestiniog, which is why the slate from its quarry came down to the Conwy Valley instead.

• I drew the village in preference to the quarry as it has managed to retain much of its original 19th century rural character.  It has the feel of a place that got left behind, and is quite content to be so.

• As far as I could see there is no shop. Just the quarry and a chapel. Work at one end of the village, and worship at the other.

• Yet there are some nice architectural details, such as bay windows, and hood mouldings over the openings.   I like Cwm Penmachno.  2017.
